To be or not to be?

The time you completed your final high school exam and while waiting, planning your future is one of the most important transaction of your life. It is the time where we decide whether we want to further our students or start working. And if we have decided to further our studies, what course should we take? The vast amount of colleges and varied type subjects but only make it hard to decide. Those who have an ambition and dream would find choosing a suitable course easier.

” What do you want to be? Where are you going to study? And what course are you taking?” is probably the most frequently asked questions. A week ago, I was having a sleepover at Rosanne’s house. As I expected, I was asked the same questions I heard every time I met someone. I told them my plans briefly. During the whole time I was at Rosanne’s house, she repeated the same questions over and over again like a broken radio. She wants me to help her decide what she wants to be. Her parents tried to help her and suggest some careers but she didn’t want to do any of it. She wants a professional job, one that allows her to study abroad and she doesn’t want to study for a long period of time. Every single advice that was given fell on deaf ears and by the time I was back home, I was quite pissed. “Ding ding”,my phone rang telling me I had just received a message and guess who was it from? Rosanne. She again asked me the same questions and I told her off. I told her that this is a very big decision to make and she has to do it. No one else can help her do it because that is her life. I wouldn’t want her to blame anyone if she doesn’t like the job that she will be doing.

Deciding what to be is difficult and frustrating but we have to make that choice. We can’t be indecisive. I did not know what I want to be and finally followed my parent’s footstep. Despite it being their choice, I was the one that decided on following it. I was the one that choose to follow their advice. I cannot blame them if I do not like what I do and study. I think that whatever job you choose to do, be the best at it. Work extra hard for it and I believe that nothing will stop you from succeeding. And if you really do not like what you are doing, do something else. Knowledge is never a waste. It is okay to learn something new. At the end of the day, it is you leading your life, doing your job. Whatever things that you decide on doing, let it be one that you will not regret.
